.The following is information to assist couples where one is applying for a fiance visa;
A registered migration agent can use their knowledgeof Australia’s migration procedures to offer advice or assistance to a person wishing to obtain a visa to return or remain in Australia. They can also give assistane to people who are nominating or sponsoring prospective visa applicants.
Prospective Spouse (Fiance) Visa
The prospective Fiance visa is a three stage application process which applies to Fiances of Australian citizens or permanent residents.
Applicants can apply for the Prospective Marriage visa which, if granted will be valid for 9 months, during which time, the applicant must enter Australia, marry their sponsor and apply for the spouse visa.
If successful a temporary visa will be granted which will be valid for two years from the date of the application.
At the end of this period if the relationship is still genuine and ongoing the applicant will be granted a Spouse permanent residency visa.
The couple must be personally known to each other and have met face to face, usually as adults.
Intention to marry
The Visa Application charge as at July 2012 Was $2060.
The couple must get married within 9 months of the grant of the visa
The visa can only be applied for when the applicant is outside of Australia and only granted when applicant is still outside Australia.
Processing of visas will take between 5 months and 12 months, in some locations (eg. Philippines) can be longer.
